WHO WE ARE:
The United Parish of the Stanleys officially became so in October 2007. Formerly they had been two separate parishes in a United Benefice: the Parish of Kings Stanley with St George’s Church, and the Parish of Leonard Stanley with St Swithun’s Church. The parish now shares a pattern of services and has a single PCC.
Our main act of worship each Sunday is a Sung Eucharist. We use as our main hymn book Hymns Old and New: One Church, One Faith, One God, and our liturgy is from Common Worship. We have a small robed choir who sing in both churches, and a small team of servers who also serve in both our churches. Lay people are involved in our services leading intercessions, reading, administering the chalice and – most importantly- welcoming those who come into our beautiful buildings to worship each week.
Apart from Sunday services, we hold a midweek service of Holy Communion each Wednesday at 10am in St Swithun’s Church and an Evening Service at 6pm in St George’s Church. These services are quiet and offer space in the week to reflect and worship.
There is a Parish Evening each month at which, after a light meal, we discuss various topics of current interest from a Christian point of view.
We also have Bible Study groups which are lay led and well received. One group meets in the afternoon and the other in an evening, and both meet in homes. A third group has recently started to meet in a morning, again in the home of one of the members of the group.
