PASTORAL

BAPTISM – We welcome all people who would like to be baptised into our church. Baptisms may take place within the context of a main Sunday service, or at other times on a Sunday. Parents meet with either the Rector or some lay ministers, who explain the purpose of Baptism and give both parents and godparents the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about this sacrament.

WEDDINGS – We have two lovely churches in which people are able to marry. Initial contact is with the Rector, who has all the details and can answer any queries couples may have.

The churches in our villages are very concerned to care for the people within our community.
We have a number of activities that are run by the church for the people of our villages.

LUNCH CLUB runs on the third Friday each month, and meets in the Village Hall in Leonard Stanley. Those who come enjoy a really good meal and time together with other people.

EYES and EARS – there is a ‘Road Rep’ in each road of both villages who try to keep an eye out for anyone who may need help or assistance. They have the church ‘Welcome Packs’ and try to ensure that newcomers to the villages receive one of these. The Welcome Pack contains information about the activities in the villages, and useful local numbers of doctors, dentists, library, local councillors etc. It also contains information about our local schools.

MEN’S LUNCH is for a small group of widowers who meet to enjoy a meal that they have not had to cook or think about, and chat together. They meet in a home, and keep coming back – so they must enjoy themselves!

COFFEE POT runs twice a month on Tuesday mornings in St Swithun’s Church from 10am. It’s a time to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and meet others to just chat together.
